Monsters

She is light and colour

Until the sun sets

and she is full of monsters

Darkness

That only makes the coming day seem brighter

When she illuminates your world again

But the nights are getting longer

and you’re not sure you’ll see the sun again

each time she goes down on you

I wrote this poem about an abusive relationship. Meeting someone who seems perfect for you in every way and falling head over heels and then finding yourself in a dangerous situation. The dichotomy of them being the most incredible person you’ve ever met, and the scariest. They tear you down, just to be the one to build you back up again. And you let them, because you see so much good and beauty in them and you keep hoping things will get better. But the deeper you get, the worse the abuse becomes. Until you lose yourself and your grip on reality.

After writing the poem, I discovered an app for making music and inspiration struck. Within a few hours I completed the track and composed this video to go along with it. Finally, a sense of closure.

If you or someone you love may be in a similar situation, I encourage you to seek help. Find a counsellor or crisis support, tell someone in your life. Nobody deserves to be treated this way.

This is not a love story

This is not a love story.

This is the story of radiant daffodil walls and pretty aquamarine cupboards containing nothing but dust and disappointment.

This is the life and love you always wanted with all of the illusive paint peeled back.

This is the story of wiping last nights tears away with this mornings flower petals.

Softly fingering stems and admiring the delicacy of their nature, while being repentant of the delicacy in your own.

It is feeling more and more desperate with each argument.

Feeling more and more dependant with every threat.

Forgiving him, but never being able to live with yourself.
